Imperial taxation on trade routes has begun, and it is set to affect individuals in North America significantly. Most recipients of packages, regardless of their location, will now be subject to an entry tax. This change marks a departure from the previous situation where packages valued under $800 did not incur such taxes. In theory, when a package arrives in the United States, the customs office is expected to check the declared value of the goods and apply taxation based on that value which includes both the cost of the goods and shipping fees.

Implementing this system in the U.S. will require a substantial increase in manpower for customs officials to systematically review every package and apply taxes accordingly. Similarly, courier companies will need additional resources to manage the extra services entailed in prepayment and customs processing for each package. Therefore, it is likely that the enforcement of these measures will be random, rather than applied uniformly to all packages, similar to practices in some European countries.

Small declared values, such as those under $100, may not be scrutinised in the early stages of this system’s implementation. What this means for you is that when we ship your gear, we will declare a low value to minimize your potential tax exposure. I still hope that the current system being implemented will impact U.S. recipients far less than anticipated.
